Cholula

VIENTO

Walk and enjoy Cholula, home of the Great Pyramid or Tlachihualtépetl which is considered the largest pyramidal base in the world. In its top, you can see the sanctuary of La Virgen de los Remedios. Admire its colonial architecture and discover if this Magical Town actually houses 365 churches.

Visit
  • San Francisco Acatepec

This town has a Talavera polychrome facade which makes it worthy of admiration. Additionally, the San Francisco temple outstands due to its red brick as well as its main altar which is decorated with golden moldings.

  • Temple of Santa María Tonantzintla

The temple of Santa María Tonantzintla is just kilometers away from Cholula; this temple exemplifies the indigenous baroque art from the eighteenth century. There is a wonderful fusion of Spanish and indigenous cultures in the motifs in the decoration which makes this temple a must-see.

  • Pyramid of Cholula

When you visit the pyramid of Cholula you will enter to one of the largest archaeological sites in Latin America, you can tour part of its interior and know its catacombs or search from the top, the best angle to capture the imposing beauty of the Popocatépetl volcano.

    What to eat?

The cuisine of Cholula is an evidence of how this town honors its indigenous roots. One of its signature dishes is the so-called ‘pata de elefante’, which is an extra-large tortilla made of white or blue corn. There also ‘cuetlas’ which are butterfly larvae and, of course, many other stews which are prepared with ancestral products such as alaches and pumpkin flowers.
