Cuetzalan, which is nestled in the Sierra Norte of Puebla, became the first Magical Town in the state in 2002. On your visit you will be able to admire wonderful landscapes crowned by their mystical mist. Simultaneously, you will be able to enjoy the richness and culture of their native peoples shown through dances, gastronomy and crafts.

  • Parish of San Francisco de Asís

    The parish of San Francisco de Asís, located in the center of Cuetzalan, has a magnificent 60 meter tower (196 feet) that dates back to the seventeenth century. In front of the parish, there is a stick where there is a ritual ceremony called “Los Voladores”. Such performance was declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

  • Sunday Market

    In order to know and understand the daily life of this community, it is essential to come to the Sunday market. Here, you will be able to buy regional products such as vanilla, coffee, mamey, bananas, textiles, spices and more.

  • Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

    Visiting the church of the jarritos, the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora Guadalupe is a must. Just before entering, you will be able to admire mortuary art while passing by tombs and mausoleums.

  • Yohualichan

    Here, you will visit the ceremonial center Yohualichan, known as “La casa de la noche (House of the Night)”. It is considered the first large Totonaco settlement before its migration to Tajin. There are still colorful ceremonies full of color such as “Los voladores and quetzalines”.

    What to eat?

    If you want your experience to be exceptional, do not forget to eat the tasty mole with chicken which is served with red rice. Other options are the chilpozontle, smoked cecina accompanied by tlayoyos, beans with xocoyoli, pipián ranchero which is cooked with chiltepín chili, chayote and ground sesame. Finally, you can drink the traditional Yolixpa (a herb liqueur), a cup of coffee or fruit wine.

    How to get there?

    By taking the highway 120, you will arrive in 3 hours while driving through 172 kilometers that separate this Magical Town from the city of Puebla.
