Live the adventure in Izta-Popo National Park

Puebla has one of the most impressive natural attractions in the country. Surely you have heard about Izta-Popo National Park: it is located two and a half hours from Mexico City. If you have an adventurous spirit, like hiking and are looking to disconnect from everyday life, this is the perfect place for you. Puebla opens your senses!

We recommend you to get up early to start your tour and do all the activities that the park offers, believe me, it is really worth it.

If you arrive by car you can park at Paso de Cortés, where you will also register your visit to start your adventure in the small museum that offers scientific information about Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl.

And now the time has come! The tour is done on foot; depending on your skills, training and equipment, it will be the specific place where you can go.

To enjoy incredible landscapes, crystal clear waterfalls that descend from the heights of the Popocatepetl volcano, as well as varied vegetation, you can walk the trails in the lower parts of the park, now if you are more daring and trained you can climb very close to the top always following the relevant safety measures.

A few kilometers from Paso de Cortés is an ecotourism center with a lake in the center, this place is perfect to enjoy with your family, partner or friends. During your visit you can enjoy activities such as horseback riding, zip-lining, ATV or bicycle tours, among others.

To regain energy you can enjoy various food options in the park, from the traditional and tasty roasted corn, a variety of Mexican snacks, to comforting drinks against the cold such as coffee or hot chocolate, accompanied by delicious sweet bread, baked in the traditional way.

To make your visit as satisfactory as possible, we recommend that you wear comfortable clothing, preferably boots, jeans and wool shirts, as well as warm clothing, since in the winter season the temperatures in the region are very low, generating spectacular snowy landscapes.

Take advantage of the fact that the visit to this national park is free, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, while Saturday and Sunday the schedule is from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. You can stay at the Villa Ecoturística La Venta or Buenavista Villa Ecoturística, which offer affordable prices.

Now that you have an idea of what Izta-Popo National Park has to offer, surely you feel like visiting it. I invite you to plan your visit to Puebla as soon as possible and have this unique experience that nature offers you.

We recommend you to download the Essential Guide of Rural Tourism of the State of Puebla to locate ecotourism centers and contact specialized guides and hosts to make your trip safer.
